Our vineyards are located in Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Area, on the hills, at about 300 mt. on the sea level with clay soil rich in potassium, yellow sands (tufa), shells and coral fossils. This kind of soil is very important for the grapes and consequently for the wine. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, the most famous product of this area is well-balanced with a round body and silky tannins and a finishing of mineral notes. This wine, as the Poet Francesco Redi said “d’ogni vino è il Re!” “is the King of all wines!”.
The climate is also really important with its dry and breezy summers and long autumns that allow a perfect ripeness of Sangiovese grape. Plant system is mixed between guyot and spur cord with 3500-5000 vines per hectare. In the early summer a green harvest is made and in September the harvest starts with a consistent bunch-selection.
Il Greppo wines are based on Sangiovese grape, blended in a small percentage to indigenous grapes like Colorino, Canaiolo Nero and Mammolo. International grapes like Cabernet and Merlot are used to produce IGT.
Eco-friendly systems are used in the field with pheromone traps and low quantity of pesticide.
In cellar, high standard quality is joint to traditional system like wood tanks for the fermentation of wine.
After its fermentation period the wine starts ageing in wood, both in traditional barrels from 25 to 100 hl and French oak barriques. The ageing period changes according to the type of wine and ends with few months in bottle.
